A world without war.
Ever thought of how it would be without war, a world without clash of interest, a world filled with individuals, groups and states that never growled at each other?.
Conflicts are essential part of human existence, but arguably not war, which is the apex of conflicts. Many theorists have tried to conjure an exact definition for this state of being.
War isn't only a thing of physical occurrence as it is also a state of mind, this constitute a major problem as they try to come up with a true definition of the term 'war'.
The following are the different views on what war is:
🎤War is a state of armed conflict between societies. It is generally characterized by extreme aggression, destruction, and mortality, using regular or irregular military forces. An absence of war is usually called "peace". Warfare refers to the common activities and characteristics of types of war, or of wars in general. Total war is warfare that is not restricted to purely legitimate military targets, and can result in massive civilian or other non-combatant casualties.
While some scholars see war as a universal and ancestral aspect of human nature, others argue it is a result of specific socio-cultural or ecological circumstances.[Wikipedia]
🎤 War, in the popular sense, a conflict among political groups involving hostilities of considerable duration and magnitude. In the usage of social science, certain qualifications are added. Sociologists usually apply the term to such conflicts only if they are initiated and conducted in accordance with socially recognized forms. They treat war as an institution recognized in custom or in law. Military writers usually confine the term to hostilities in which the contending groups are sufficiently equal in power to render the outcome uncertain for a time. Armed conflicts of powerful states with isolated and powerless peoples are usually called pacifications, military expeditions, or explorations; with small states, they are called interventions or reprisals; and with internal groups, rebellions or insurrections. Such incidents, if the resistance is sufficiently strong or protracted, may achieve a magnitude that entitles them to the name “war.”[Britannica]
🎤 War is a conflict involving the organized use of weapons and physical force by states or other large-scale groups. Warring parties usually hold territory, which they can win or lose; and each has a leading person or organization which can surrender, or collapse, thus ending the war. Wars are usually a series of campaigns between two opposing sides involving a dispute over sovereignty, territory, resources, religion, or ideology. A war to liberate an occupied country is called a "war of liberation"; a war between internal factions within a state is a civil war. [wikiquote].
However, these definitions of war all lies in physical aspect of conflict and as such might me seen as just a definite of 'physical violence',because the definition of war should comprise an outburst of conflicting decisions in one's mind.
This therefore, distanced these definitions from a universal meaning of war.
War is a physical state, or a state of mind, emanating from poor management of common conflicts or conflicting decisions, characterized by outburst of conflicting interests and a spoilt relationship, either of the mind or between individuals or groups.
Though the above definition isn't a universal definition of war, it encompasses both mind and body as related to the adscence of peace.
War is the absence of peace, however not in all occasions, but an occasion of war is highly unbearable, nations are tore down just as human relationships are decreased to the lowest value, in the physical realm, loss of lives becomes a normality and a culture too.
Nations find it hard to recover from even a war that ends in their favour, this thus explains the effects of a war.
The deadliest war in history, in terms of the cumulative number of deaths since its start, is the Second World War, from 1939 to 1945, with 60–85 million deaths, followed by the Mongol conquests which was greater than 41 million. Proportionally speaking, the most destructive war in modern history is the War of the Triple Alliance, which took the lives of over 60% of Paraguay's population, according to Steven Pinker.[not verified in body] In 2013 war resulted in 31,000 deaths, down from 72,000 deaths in 1990. In 2003, Richard Smalley identified war as the sixth (of ten) biggest problem facing humanity for the next fifty years. War usually results in significant deterioration of infrastructure and the ecosystem, a decrease in social spending, famine, large-scale emigration from the war zone, and often the mistreatment of prisoners of war or civilians. Another byproduct of some wars is the prevalence of propaganda by some or all parties in the conflict, and increased revenues by weapons manufacturers.[Wikipedia).
The effects of any war doesn't end after the war time, it extends to a very far timeline of such nation or state, ranging from decades to centuries, this can be seen in countries that have fought real time wars, an unstable economy and recurrent rebellion from groups who got hold of arms during the war time, this leads to different sorts of crimes, ranging from petty armed theft to insurgence, citizens who enrolled into the military return to being civilians after the war, but how they make use of their acquired military skills might not be beneficial to their immediate society and the country per say.
Apart from crime after war, many problems face any nation that embarked on a war and this includes disease outbreak and famine. War dismantles the the agricultural set-up of the waring parties as the Livestock and plant farmers scamper for safety and many are inevitably killed as the case may be. Farmlands are also ruined and depending on the sorts of weapons used, farmlands and environment gets polluted, putting all these in place after the war takes a lot of time amidst dwindling economy. Citizen are therefore faced with adject starvation and sickness. Thus, the lives lost after a war equals approximately half the lives lost during the war.
War is by this, a loss-loss situation as winning a war means 'losing less' not 'gaining more' as most warlods think.
Maybe if everyone on earth was a coward, there would be no war, but cowardice is deadlier than war itself, but a constructive combination of cowardice and strength breeds healthier citizens and therefore healthier planet.
War of The mind
A second type of war stabbing the society, war of the mind exclusively concerns the individual as a unit, people's thoughts, decisions, and wants often conflict with each other, this is a mild form of war, but one's ability to handle personal conflicts helps him handle physical violence. Though it's of a little help but even great warriors like Alexander the great couldn't conquer themselves and failed because of this, it is important to conquer oneself before seeking to conquer other.
Self conquering entails self consciousness and ability to handle conflicts that occurr within your system. This reduces the urge for physical violence and increases a thirst for peace and tranquility.
Conclusion
A world without war is a dream, which seems unachievable, but one thing remains our duty as humans, our support for peace which will be driving force towards achieving this dream.
September 27 marked Seventy-one years after the end the Second World War which is dubbed the most blood-thirsty war in human history, but the scars of this war is still boldly written on countries which are highly involved as they struggle to recover a loss of seven decades ago. Had they known, peaceful negotiations would have been worth it, let's seek for peace and embrace love.
